4 different stories about Kargil war that we are barely talking
Though we are proudly celebrating the Vijay Diwas every year from 26th July 1999 whereas the situation would be different had the nation chose some different strategy or had the political scenario was not like it should be. Today we are commemorating this day due to the sacrifice of our brave soldiers, but there are also some incidents we least discuss. Here are 4 different stories about Kargil wars that we are barely talking.
India was not well-prepared
As Vajpayee bus ride to Lahore created a peaceful environment between two countries, so the chances of war were beyond imagination, and that was also less than three months after. Initially, as per the reports, it was believed that mujahideen were entering but later they aware Pakistani soldiers were trying to infiltrate there. It was not easy for the army to fight in the mountains full of jungles, and is a popular example of high-altitude warfare where it is difficult to continue for a long time due to bad weather and rough terrain.
Lack of weapons and some are not even fit for the war and bulletproof jackets caused the biggest problem for the army during the war, and if this was not enough, rations and clothing problems added more trouble for the Army. The US and its allies forced Israel to delay the arms delivery, but it didn’t listen to anyone and supplied it on the time otherwise the situation would be different. Though today’s situation is different whereas that time was a bit different, and showed army was not well-prepared during that war. We can say that the US and its allies were not happy due to Pokhran atomic test and just wanted to teach a lesson to us by using Pakistan as a weapon, and that’s why they even refused to give access to GPS by maintaining their so-called neutrality.
Nawaaz Sharif was personally humiliated by the US
Nawaz Sharif, the PM of Pakistan was unaware about the situation that Parvez Mushraff was preparing for a Nuclear war, and at that time the US ordered to stop the war otherwise, it would block the $100 million IMF loan to Pakistan that created an additional tension for him. Though he was personally humiliated by the US during those time, where he begged Bill Clinton’s personal intervention to stop the war, however, the US president wanted the unconditional withdrawal of troops. CIA had information about the preparation of Nuclear War against India, and Sharif had no idea about it, and Clinton didn’t want to lose the opportunity to scare him as possible as because Pakistan PM believed that India would be the first to start such attack. The situation was too bad for Sharif, he wanted to visit the US, but Clinton told him not to come still went without any official invitation! He even scared for his own life in Pakistan and didn’t agree to return, however, after a lot of discussions, the Pakistan PM agreed to issue the statements as per Clinton’s wish. Later Pakistan Army ousted him in a coup, and the reason was none other than withdrawal of troops from Kargil and prevented the army from using Nuclear weapons.

Personally disappointed by the action of Pakistan, Vajpayee immediately made a call to PM Nawaz Sharif, where he expressed his grievance about Pakistan action against India. Sharif assured him to talk on this matter after a conversation with Musharraf but before they cut the phone, Vajpayee wanted him to speak with someone else, and he was none other than Dilip Kumar. The legendary actor talked with Pakistan PM and expressed his fear and disappointment, and as an Indian Muslim, their situation would be worse as they don’t wish any war between the two nations according to a book written by Khurshid Kasuri, the former foreign minister of Pakistan.
India planned to cross LoC, and was about to start the Nuclear war
A book, written by Barkha Dutt, the former editor of NDTV, claimed that Indian Army had “Six Day Plan”, and the then national security advisor Brajesh Mishra did not rule out to cross the LoC and use of the nuclear weapon during an interaction with her. Though India decided to start a full-fledged war against Pakistan, later changed the plan 3 and half hours before the attack for some different reasons according to an exclusive report by NDTV.
