8 Signs that show you are becoming depressed
Do you ever amaze how to figure out if you are suffering from depression or not? We may shy away from this topic, but it is a serious mental health issue which could affect us throughout the life. It feels like a silly question to ask about depression, but surprisingly 36% people in India suffer from this disease at some points of their life. According to World Health Organization, approximately 350 million people worldwide are suffering from depression. So it’s not a small issue to hide, and if you feel that you are suffering, then, you should immediately act for its cure. Here are 8 signs that show you are becoming depressed.
1. Lost interest in your activities:
Depressed people show no interest in their usual activities which once they loved to do, and it feels like irritating for them to continue those activities. They try to engage them but find that those are not enjoyable anymore. For example, once you loved to sing, but now thinking about the song seems like torture.
2. Changes in weight:
You can either develop over eating habits to fill the emotional void or completely against eating, which can cause severe weight gain or loss. A sudden change in weight is the warning of depression, especially those who have symptoms or a history of this disease. Both of these problems can lead to severe complication so if you have the sign of overeating or least eating habits then it may be the cause of depression.
3. Difficulties in sleeping:
The biggest depression symptoms are facing problems in sleeping where either you sleep whole day or can’t sleep, and like the weight problem, physical changes can swing to extreme levels. Suddenly you feel tired and sleeping all day or you can’t even sleep for one moment in the whole night. Sometimes you find yourself waking up in the middle of the night regularly.
4. Physical pain:
Depression fatigue is real, however, most of the people ignore physical problems as a symptom of depression, but they should not. Suffering from the constant cold, weak immune system, flu, feeling sick to your stomach and exacerbated chronic conditions can happen due to depression.
5. The increase in anger:
Constant depression can make you extremely frustrated, and this can manifest as anger because, in depression, it turns inwards, as the expression goes. Finding little things that would normally not bother you, suddenly have the power to completely ruin your mood for the whole day could be a sign of depression.
6. You isolate yourself:
Socializing with anyone for a depressed people seem to be very difficult because they thought that they can’t connect with anyone anymore. However, isolating themselves will only make the problem worse, so they should try to socialize with others.
7. Concentration problem:
Depressed people find themselves unable to focus, taking some hours to finish something that ought to take some minutes, struggling to identify their thoughts coherently are also the sign of depression. If you always feel that you have no mental energy and your mind is muffled and numb, then you should consult with a doctor.
8. Lack of interest in work:
It can severely affect your work ability like waking up in the morning and feel like unable to getting out of bed can lead to long bouts of absenteeism. Constant absence at the workplace at least once or twice in every week or just constantly coming late and leaving early is a common sign of presenteeism which means regular attendance but failure to get anything done.
Often people think that depression feels like normal, but in reality, it’s not and in fact, it could be deadly. Depression effects can severely affect our lifestyle which could be suicidal too, and we have countless examples where people gave their lives. So we should not take it lightly.
