As a worker of white collar job, you are subjected to standardize the dress code imposed by your employer. It depends on the profession and the company you work that whether you should wear business formal or formal or business casual. While some companies give relaxation at the workplace to wear casuals, but all of them follow strict dress code especially during the interview. So either you are going to attend an interview or working, your attire should be fitted with the company culture.
When you are going for an interview for a position at a company, it’s very important to be careful about your dresses, it means your attire should represent you in a professional manner, but in a casual workplace, casual look is more appropriate than formal. If you receive a job and not sure about clothes, then you should ask whether complete formal is required or business casual. Because there is no better way to ruin your first impression by wearing wrong cloth in your first day where you are looking like a sore thumb just because of your imprecise clothes. Be sure that if your job requires a specific dress code or not and don’t assume your dress just by looking at the people in that place.
You should not wear T-shirt, jeans, and sneakers regardless of gender, no matter how comfortable you feel in this outfit. Because you are going to work for a company, not for any outing with your friends.
Here are the difference between formal, business formal and business casual
For men, formal clothes include tie (black/white), formal white shirt (preferred), tuxedo shoes and trousers. A tuxedo jacket will enhance your outfit and be sure about the color no matter whether your jacket is white or black, shirt must be white and for God sake don’t wear a striped formal shirt.
It’s the most common form of professional attire for both men and women. Don’t be confused between formal and business formal, though the word ‘formal’ has been used. It includes a dark business suit, subdued ties, and leather shoes. Also, the suit should be well tailored to ensure that it flatters your physic and gives a professional look.
It’s the most comfortable outfit for everyone because it doesn’t require a tailored suit or even a tie, but attention is required to maintain your attire well. It includes khakis, chinos dark slacks or dark-wash jeans with an open collar shirt with casual shoes. Also, you can opt for a blazer or sports coat. The tie is not necessary, but you can wear it. But you should take care of your professional look.
Wearing right cloth in the right environment makes you smarter and gives you an elegant look. For example, business formal is important for a job interview, professional office environment, whereas formal is required for an office meeting. Business casual is for company parties or the relaxed professional environments or informal business lunch.
