The FIFA World cup maybe the primary reason behind the craziness among the Global audiences including those countries who are not participating and even don’t have a chance to play in near future, however, some legendary players never get an opportunity in their entire career even after winning the heart of the audience with their stellar performances. Here are some unfortunate greatest footballers who never played in the FIFA World Cup.
The dispute with Germany FA forced him to retire at just the age of 24 even after winning 1980 European Championship. Though he won titles with clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona however never get the chance to play in the biggest tournament of football.
His 16 years career own more trophies than the rest of the team members combine that includes 13 premier league titles, 4 FA Cup trophies and 2 Champions League trophies but unfortunately his country Wales never able to qualify for the World Cup and European Championship during his career.
The Northern Ireland player played 37 times for his country and won European Cup with Manchester United but unfortunately, he never becomes part of the FIFA World Cup. Despite being the greatest footballer of his time he was unable to lead the team to World Cup as his performance was going down, and during 1982 when his country qualified for the tournament he was not fortunate to become a part of it.
The King Cantona (he was called due to his achievements) who changed the luck of Manchester United which was struggling before his join is another unfortunate name in this list who never able to make his journey for the World Cup. Even after 45 International Caps and 20 goals in his 8 years career, when it comes to his own country, destiny was not with him and he never won any trophy for France. On 1985 he announced his retirement after France victory against Dutch due to the dispute against management as they chose Zinédine Zidane over him as a team’s playmaker.
Three European Cups, Six League Titles, One UEFA Cup, One FA Cup as his achievement never helped him to gain a position in the national team for the prestigious tournament and in fact, it’s surprising to know that he did not get more chances for international matches and due to the ignorance of team management continuously, he forced to announce his retirement at the age of twenty-nine.

One of the greatest African player of all time, and fondly called as King George is another unfortunate name in this list who never able to play World Cup and never won trophies for his own country Liberia. The only African player till now (2018) who was named as FIFA World Player of the year in 1995, however, it is unfortunate that his own country failed to qualify for World Cup despite his all efforts.

He is considered as one of the greatest Italian footballers of all time and was the captain and symbol of Grande Torino team which was the strongest team during the 1940s. He is so committed to his game that even after suffering from illness he attended the match at Lisbon for his club Torino in 1949, but unfortunately, destiny had something different plan for him. After that match, while returning, he and his entire teammates lost their life in the plane crash just before one year of the FIFA World Cup 1950. He was 30 years old at that time. In 2012 he was inducted into the Italian Football Hall of Fame (Posthumously) and in 2015 Italy’s Sports Walk of Fame.
He was the part of the most successful team in England and was a prolific goal scorer that includes 256 in total with 28 for his national team Wales and won five league titles and two European Cups for his team Liverpool, still, it was not enough to choose him and was another victim of racism who was denied for the prestigious tournament just because of his nationality.
One of the greatest footballers that Finland produced ever but unfortunately his 24 years career and 12 years as a captain never helped him to play for the national team at World Cup even after hailed as one of the finest players in Europe. Whether it’s his bad luck and injury; Litman never able to get a chance for World Cup and announced retirement on 17 November 2010 after a win against San Marino in the qualifying stages for UEFA European Championship with an 8-0 goal and is the oldest player of Finland and in the Football history to score a goal in the qualifying stage.

One of the most unfortunate players in this list who never able to get a chance to participate in the tournament even after representing three different countries and we can say it’s purely his bad luck that prevented him. In his entire career, he got a chance to play from Argentina, but the national team refused to participate in the 1950 World Cup. Again 1954 he played for Columbia however the country failed to qualify and finally, he played from Spain for his rest of the career but unfortunately they unable to qualify. The saddest part is when Spain qualified for 1962 World Cup he was suffering from injury thus unable to participate and his world cup journey had been a dream forever.
One of the prominent faces of Indian football team and was a captain of the national team but the depressing FIFA ranking and bad performances in the qualifying matches destroy his dream forever, and he retired from his professional career in 2011.
He could become the prominent face in the Football history, but unfortunately, he lost his life just at the age of 21 in the tragic Munich air crash. Started his career at the age of 18 by playing for Manchester United and just after scoring the second goal of his career in European Cup quarter-final against Red Star Belgrade he died in that tragic accident.
